Digging Data

Brief

My client Miss Maria Smithers who is the owner of Shop Till You Drop needs a database of the customers that have signed up to the VIP club so she can send out e-mails advertising specials exclusive to VIPs in the UK.
The software I will use to solve the problem is Microsoft Access. This has the following useful features that will help to get the job done:
- Queries
- Forms
- Filters
- Fields

Your database must have the following

  • At least 6 fields
  • At least one look up field ( drop down)
  • At least 10 records ( you can make the details)
  • One input form with a title, resized fields and record navigation buttons
  • One report with the records grouped by a particular category
  • One query that selects certain records for a particular problem

Tables:
Forms: Help by keeping one thing's information on one page and another person's on another page so it is easier to get the information that you want.
Reports: They help by grouping whatever you want. Eg. People from the USA are all together if you program it that way as opposed to having them spread all over the place.
Queries: They help by having a particular group of people permanently saved to the database without having to use a filter all of the time.

Making the Table
Show a screenshot in design view and show another in datasheet view with some of the records showing.

The screenshot below shows the table in design view. This is where I set the feild names and data types.

Making the Input Form
Explain what an input form is and why it is useful
Show a screenshot of your input form here.

Making a Query
State the problem your query will solve.
Show a screenshot in design view and show another in datasheet view with the records showing. Explain what the screenshots show

Making a Report
Explain the problem that your report will solve
Show a screen shot of your report - remember it needs to be grouped by a particular category. Link to the file if it too big to fit on the page.

Evaluation
Say why database skills are important. State the advantages of a computerised database over a paper based database (Remember the pictures we discussed in class). Discuss which methods you found best to learn database skills. What improvements could you make to your database in the future?
