Spreading the Word!

Purpose:

The purpose of my brochure is to raise awareness of the increasing problem animal cruelty in my age group.
Target audience: secondary school students between the ages of 13-18.

Research:

Completed Brochures:
Brochure1.jpg
I like this one because there is a simple colour scheme, it has actually taught me something. The brochure has order, suitable graphics and information, yet the creator of it made it all plant-like, even the background.

Brochure2.jpg
I chose this one because it is related to the topic that I am doing. I like how they used a basic colour scheme with practically no bold colours, the brochure has the necessary information, but they have kept that simple as well. The grapghics are relevant and topic-related, I could tell what the brochure was about without reading the title.

Suitable Graphics:
I researched pictures of aimal cruelty to find graphics that would be suitable for my brochure, but I want to keep guesomeness to an absoulute minimum, so this isn't the actual extent that animal cruelty goes to--they are just minor cases. Here are some:

These two dogs have probably been caged for most (if not their whole) lives. It's really common to see locked up animals, so obviously I'm going to have animals in cages among my pictures.

This is another case of animal cruelty.

external image Circus-animals-elephant1.jpg
These animals give quite a show. But what happened before this elephant was the star of the show? It probably went through years of cruel training before it got an act.

Edited Graphics:

Animal.Cruelty.jpg
I blended these two images in the middle.

Aniimal_Cruely.jpg
I cropped and blended these two images. I cropped around the elephant and around the cat as well and then I made them one by blending them.

Evidence of Feedback:

I emailed Mum asking for her advice on my brochure. She replied with this:
"It was great. Just check the spelling of 'circus' (which I have done as plural due to the fact that I am talking about all circuses)."

Evaluation:

If anything, I am proud of my finished project. I have made a few brochures before, so I am no rookie when it comes to making them, but I did gain new knowledge and skills. I didn't have any difficulty researching what I wanted as I have prior knowledge of how to Google information. During this project I have learnt how to use Gimp to edit and crop photos and blend images. At first, I struggled with this, but as time passed I gained more confidence and knowledge and I am now comfortable using it, for simple tasks such as cropping images, and slightly more complex like blending two images together. I used to hate Wikispaces because I had no idea how to use it, but I have learnt how to publish on my wiki, change font, and all of the basic things. My knowledge of how to use Publisher has evolved. I only learnt ab out Publisher in Year 9 and my skills were fairly simple. Now I know how to add borders, new text boxes. I was too afraid of putting graphic images on my brochure so the images I used don't truly show the extent of what I have learnt about animal cruelty. I knew Animal Cruelty was a problem, and that was why I chose it. But I have learnt more about what it actually is and the wide range of animals that are effected.
